Hi, my name is Eric Hamilton. I was born on February 8, 1966 in Los Angeles, California. I lived there for a short time, and eventually moved to San Diego, California--a city on the Mexican border. Growing up in the late 60s and early 70s, I can remember the landing on the moon, lots of hippies, and bell bottom pants...However, I was too young to participate.
As a child and teen, I went to school, rode a skateboard, played the cello for two years, learned to type, ran track and field, and did some other stuff--
I graduated from high school from a school called Holy Angels...with that name you can probably imagine the type of school it was. There were old nuns wandering around in the halls.
My mom was from Germany, so I spent a lot of time with my grandparents there, who partly raised me. As a consequence, I spoke better German than English until I was about 6 years old. Kids used to say I had an accent when I spoke English. Don't worry, now my accent sounds very American, I think.
Eventually, I went to university and got a degree in International Relations with a focus on Central European Area Studies: a sort of combination of Economics, Political Science, History, Geography, and Language. I speak Polish fluently besides German and English (and Spanish), and have a working knowledge of Russian and Italian. With such a language focus, it was logical for me to get a master's degree in Linguistics, which I did in 1992. Since then, I've been an ESL teacher, and am very happy with my career choice! Somehow, at some point in time, I woke up in Santiago, Chile...
